About Renton History Museum, Renton, WA

The Renton History Museum, housed in a historic Art Deco firehouse, hosts a variety of exhibitions, programmes, publications, and events to tell the tales of Renton’s history and present. The Museum is located in historic downtown Renton, next to the library and Liberty Park, and is surrounded by local shops and restaurants. It also has free parking.

The Renton Historical Society, a 501(c)3, and the City of Renton collaborate to sponsor the Renton History Museum. The Museum is housed in the Renton Fire Station No. 1, which was erected under the Works Progress Administration in 1942 and is the last remaining facility in the neighbourhood (WPA).

The Renton Historical Society (RHS) is a non-profit organisation that supports the Museum from the private sector. Anyone interested in supporting the Museum’s objective to document, preserve, and educate about the area’s history should join the RHS.

The Renton History Museum houses collections that have been given since 1966. Objects, pictures, and archival documents from greater Renton’s industrial, civic, and cultural past make up the museum’s major collection. The collection includes archaeological, ethnological, and historical artefacts that date from prehistoric times to the current day.

The University of Washington Libraries Digital Collections have a collection of pictures from the Renton History Museum. About 500 photographs from the museum’s collection of over 18,000 images are featured on the site.
