About Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, Renton, WA

Cougar-Squak Corridor Park connects the 3,000+ acre Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park to Squak Mountain State Park, totaling over 5,000 acres of protected land in the public property known as the “Issaquah Alps.” The elevation of the park ranges from 1,000 to 1,600 feet above sea level.

Cougar Mountain Park contains nearly 35 miles of trails that wind through a variety of environments, including mature second growth forests, streams and wetlands, cliffs, and caves nearby. While the park offers panoramic views of Lake Sammamish, the Cascades, Bellevue, Seattle, and beyond, there are portions of the park that are less exposed to the sights and noises of neighbouring urban growth.

The park is bounded on the north by Bellevue’s Lakemont area and on the northeast by Issaquah’s city limits. The 260-acre Talus Open Space borders the park on the east. The southeastern border is formed by State Route 900. To the southeast, Squak Mountain looms, and to the south, the farmland of May Creek Valley. Renton is located to the southwest.

Although the majority of the paths at Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park are designed for hikers, a few enable horseback riding. You must keep on the trails due to threats posed by old mining activity in the park. There are four trailheads that lead to the park. At the Sky Country Trailhead, there is a parking lot with space for horse trailers. (Wikipedia)
